The adventure begins with one of the most scenic flights on earth from Islamabad to Skardu. Weather permitting, travellers are rewarded with extraordinary aerial views of some of the world’s highest mountains, including Nanga Parbat, Rakaposhi, and Kanjut Sar, with possible glimpses of K2 and Broad Peak.
Skardu, often called the gateway to the great peaks of the Karakoram, offers a fascinating blend of natural beauty and history. Visits to the historic Kharpocho Fort and the banks of the mighty Indus River reveal the region’s rich cultural heritage and strategic importance throughout history.
The journey continues into the picturesque Shigar Valley, often referred to as the “Gateway to the Karakoram.” The valley is home to remarkable historical and spiritual monuments, including the UNESCO award-winning Amburiq Mosque and ancient khanqahs that reflect centuries of Buddhist and Islamic influences. The hike to Kari Dong further unveils archaeological remains, ancient inscriptions, and breathtaking views of the Shigar Valley and the majestic Haramosh Range.

Catch the early morning flight to Skardu, regarded as one of the most spectacular in the world. From the air one has breathtaking views of massive Nanga Parbat (the world’s 9th highest peak) Rakaposhi Peak and Kanjut Sar. On a clear day one may also get a distant glimpse of K2 and Broad Peak right before landing. Upon arrival at Skardu begin the tour with a visit of historical Kharpocho Fort that was built by Ali Sher Khan the most celebrated ruler of the Anchan Dynasty. After enjoying the vista from the Fort’s vantage point, follow the steep trail just below the Fort for 20 minutes before descending to the left bank of the mighty Indus River. After enjoying a picnic lunch at the bank of the Indus, continue on to visit Skardu bazaar and, if open, the small K-2 museum. In the late afternoon, drive to Shigar and check in to the hotel.
Transfer to the airport (about 45 minutes) for your weather permitting flight back to Islamabad.
