“From the Pines of Murree to the Valleys of Kashmir – A Weekend Escape into Nature, Heritage, and Himalayan Serenity.”
The Week End in Murree and Muzaffarabad tour offers an enchanting journey through two of Pakistan’s most scenic mountain destinations. Combining the colonial charm of Murree with the breathtaking landscapes of Azad Kashmir, this short getaway provides the perfect escape from city life and an opportunity to experience the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Himalayan foothills.
Murree, established in 1851 as a summer retreat for the British administration, remains one of Pakistan’s most beloved hill stations. Situated at an altitude of 2,300 metres above sea level, it is renowned for its cool climate, dense pine forests, panoramic viewpoints, and charming colonial architecture. Strolling along Mall Road and visiting Kashmir Point, Pindi Point, and the historic Holy Trinity Church offer visitors a delightful blend of natural beauty and history.
The journey continues to Muzaffarabad, the picturesque capital of Azad Kashmir, nestled at the confluence of the Jhelum and Neelum Rivers. The scenic drive through alpine forests and rolling meadows is itself an unforgettable experience. The excursion to Pir Chinasi, perched at an elevation of 2,900 metres, rewards travellers with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and valleys while offering insight into the region’s spiritual heritage.
The tour concludes with a visit to the historic Red Fort (Rutta Qila), a monument that reflects centuries of regional history and strategic importance. Ideal for families, honeymooners, photographers, and nature enthusiasts, this weekend tour perfectly combines cool mountain retreats, stunning landscapes, cultural landmarks, and historical exploration in just three memorable days.
After being picked up from your hotel, drive to Murree a popular hill resort, which was once the famous summer hill station for the British Army during colonial rule and was established in 1851. The British army built some very high standard school and colleges in the area, such as Lawrence College and Jesus & Mary Convent. Murree is situated at an altitude of 2300 m above sea level and the scenic journey takes less than two hours. A vast panorama of forest clad ridges and majestic pines on thickly wooded slopes are a feast for the eyes. Upon arrival take some rest then stroll on famous Mall Road of Murree. After noon sightseeing to Kashmir point, Pindi point and Holy Trinity Church, dating back to 1857. Overnight stay at a hotel near Murree. [Hotel options are Shangri-La Murree (3*); Hotel One in Bhurban (2+*) or Pearl-Continental Bhurban (4+*)].
In the morning drive approximately 90 minutes to Muzaffarabad, the capital city of Azad Kashmir, 75 kilometers from Murree. The drive through alpine forests and meadows is enthralling and parallels the pre-partition road to Srinagar. After checking in and a short rest at the hotel, proceed for an excursion to Pir Chinasi. This tourist spot accessible through a narrow road with numerous hairpin turns is located 30 km east of Muzaffarabad city on the top of hills surrounding the city and at an elevation of 2900 meters. There is a small tomb of the local patron saint, Sayed Hussain Shah Bukhari, also known as Pir Chinasi. From here we have breath taking views of the alpine Muzaffarabad Valley. Overnight stay at the hotel. [Hotel options are various local 2* hotels; Pearl-Continental Muzaffarabad (4+*)]
After a relaxed breakfast check out from the hotel for your return drive to Islamabad (approximately 4 hours and 135 kms). On the way, visit Red Fort locally called Rutta Qila. The construction of this Fort has a chequered history. Original construction started in 1559 by the local rulers to stop the Mughals, but this failed as the Mughals annexed the area in 1587. It was not until 1645/1646 that reconstruction of the Fort recommenced by the then ruler of the area, Sultan Muzaffar Khan. The Dogra rulers improved and used the Fort until 1925, and since then it has been in disuse. Arrive at Islamabad and transfer to your hotel.
