“Winter Adventure Escape in the Heart of Swat”

Swat is a land that shines with fruit laden orchards, flower filled slopes, meandering rivers, tumbling streams and is surrounded by the mighty ranges of the Hindu Kush and the Karakoram. The valley is 1200 meters above sea level and Saidu Sharif and Mingora are the towns that form the twin capital of this area. Kalam, 98 Kilometers from Saidu Sharif, is the last town accessible by car. It is at a height of 2200 meters, and is surrounded on all sides by the snow peaks of the Hindu Kush range, dense forests of pine, fir, deodar and wild flowers, dotted with orchards of walnut and borders the Ushu stream.
After being picked up from your hotel/guest house drive to Swat via Motor Way or GT road. The Swat valley is easily reached by road from Islamabad. However it is necessary to pass through the mouth of the Peshawar valley. One has to follow the GT Road or Motor way to Mardan and then head north to Takht–e–Bahi, Dargai, Malakand Pass, Chakdara, Butkhela and Saidu Sharif. On the way, visit Takht-e-Bahi, a site comprising of the ruins of Buddhist monasteries and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Buddhist ruins of Takhi-e-Bahi (Throne of Origins) are a monastic complex, founded in the early 1st century A.D. and spectacularly positioned on various hilltops. The main monastery was in continual use until the 7th century AD. and is composed of an assemblage of buildings constructed of stone in Gandhara patterns. This is a rare site insofar as it is one of the least damaged and the most complete Buddhist monastery in Pakistan. After visiting the site continue on to Saidu Sharif, for a refreshment stop at the wonderful Swat Serena Hotel. After this pause, continue the drive to Malam Jabba, the newly rebuilt ski resort situated 45 kilometers north east of Mingora and open to the public. On arrival check in to the newly opened Pearl Continental Resort. In Malam Jabba there are many leisurely activites, including riding on ski lifts to the crest of a hill which at3000m affords excellent views of the Swat valley and to the East one glimpses the magnificent Karakorum Mountains. The Ski resort was developed with the assistance of the Austrian Government, and the slope is host to a regional ski tournament. Further there is, ice-skating and if you are adventurous, even ice fishing! Additionally, there are many nice trails for walks: a Buddhist stupa and monastery is 15 minutes’ walk away. After a relaxed breakfast check out from the hotel, hit the ski slopes one last time and in the late afternoon return to Islamabad for a drop to your residence.
