Depart Islamabad early and drive through Haripur and Mansera to join the Karakoram Highway (KKH) at Thakot. We would visit the Ashoka rock inscriptions along the way. The KKH is a marvel of modern engineering and it is being reconstructed jointly by the FWO and our Chinese brothers. From Thakot to Khunjerab, the KKH winds over 700 kms through breath-taking mountain terrain. Shortly after Thakot we will stop to view the FWO monument before arriving at our lunch stop in Besham. We continue on the fabled Shahrah-e-Resham towards Chilas. Spectacular scenery is our companion and we will cross the sites of two important under construction dams at Dassu and Diamar-Basha. At Chilas there are world famous petroglyphs (rock carvings) left by Buddhist Monks on their way to China. Overnight at the hotel (driving time approximately 12-14 hours)

Day 02: Chilas – Fairy Meadows:

We leave Chilas and shortly thereafter at Raikot Bridge (almost 75 minutes away), we board jeeps to take us on the steep and winding track towards Fairy Meadows. After 2 hours jeep drive to Tatto, we begin our hike to Fairy Meadows. Tatto to Fairy Meadow is approximately a 6 KM distance and 700 meter ascent, requiring 2-3 hours hiking through a beautiful pine forest. You can make a tea stop on the way to Fairy Meadows at a quaint stop called Midway Chai Khana. For those who find the hike challenging, horses/donkeys can be hired for the journey. Arrive Fairy Meadows and overnight stay in a tented camp.

Fairy Meadows (at 3300 meters altitude) is locally known as Jut and is a grassy pasture near one of the base camp sites of the mighty Nanga Parbat Mountain (8126 meter above sea level). Fairy Meadows serves as the launching point for trekkers summiting the Raikot face of the Nanga Parbat. After breakfast start your hike toward Nanga Parbat base camp. Today’s hike is 6-8 hours walk through lush green meadows and pine forests. After two hours walk, one reaches Beyal Camp where you can enjoy cup of tea with a beautiful view of Nanga Parbat. Another couple of hours walk from Beyal camp will bring us to the base camp of Nanga Parbat (3,967 meters above sea level). Overnight in tents.
