“From Green Valleys to the Killer Mountain – A Journey Through Pakistan’s Most Spectacular Landscapes”
The 7-Day Kaghan and Fairy Meadows Tour is a remarkable adventure that combines the lush green landscapes of Kaghan Valley with the breathtaking mountain scenery of Fairy Meadows and Nanga Parbat. This journey is designed for nature lovers, hikers, photographers, and travelers seeking an unforgettable experience in the heart of Pakistan’s northern mountains.
The tour begins in Shogran, one of the most picturesque hill stations in Kaghan Valley, surrounded by pine forests and panoramic mountain views. The excursion to Siri Paye and the hike to Makra Peak provide visitors with an opportunity to experience alpine meadows, wildflowers, and magnificent views of the Himalayan and Pir Panjal ranges. These scenic hikes offer the perfect introduction to the natural beauty of northern Pakistan.
The adventure continues to Fairy Meadows, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful mountain destinations in the world. Nestled at the foot of the mighty Nanga Parbat (8,126m), known as the “Killer Mountain,” Fairy Meadows offers spectacular views of snow-capped peaks, glaciers, and dense forests. The area is a paradise for trekkers and photographers and provides a unique opportunity to witness one of the world’s highest mountains from close proximity.
Beyond its natural beauty, this tour promotes eco-tourism and showcases Pakistan’s extraordinary landscapes and rich mountain culture. It offers a perfect balance of adventure and relaxation, allowing travelers to disconnect from busy city life and immerse themselves in nature. The journey leaves visitors with unforgettable memories and a deep appreciation for Pakistan’s mountain heritage.
Depart early in the morning for Kaghan Valley. We will join the newly commissioned scenic Hazar motorway and take the Mansehra exit so we can visit Ashoka’s 14 edicts carved on 3 boulders dating back to the 3rd century BC. We will continue through Mansehra before arriving at Balakot near the Kunhar River, the gateway to Kaghan. From here we continue to Shogran, where shortly before arriving we transfer to local jeeps to take you the final distance. Overnight at the hotel.
This morning we have an early start from Shogran taking local jeeps to the small lake at Siri, and from there continue on to Paya meadows. From here we can wander around the many trails near the Siri meadows. Or, if one is ready to hike then ‘climb’ Makra Peak, 3,885 meters high. Makra (Spider) mountain may not be able to boast the elevation of its mightier cousins in Northern Pakistan, but that is a blessing. With the peak rising only around 670m above Paye, the 2/2.5 hr. hike from the meadows to the top of Makra Peak is relatively easy. Return to Shogran for overnight.
After an early breakfast start your long driving day to Gittidas, where from an uphill track takes you to the famous Babusar pass (4173 meters high). Enjoy the breath taking views before descending to Chilas on the famous Karakoram Highway. At Chilas there are world famous petroglyphs (rock carvings) left by Buddhist Monks on their way to China. Overnight at the hotel.
We leave Chilas and shortly thereafter at Raikot Bridge (almost 75 minutes away) Upon reaching the Raikot Bridge, transfer to the Jeeps for a two hour ride to Tatto which is the starting point of trek to Fairy Meadows. From Tatto starts the three hour trek to Fairy Meadows which passes through verdant Pine forests. Fairy meadows is a beautiful tourist destination right in front of Nanga Parbat (the world’s ninth highest peak). An immense, dramatic peak rising far above its surrounding terrain, Nanga Parbat is also a notoriously difficult climb. The name Nanga Parbat is derived from the Sanskrit words Nanga and Parvata which together mean "Naked Mountain". The mountain is locally known by its Tibetan name Diamer or Deo Mir, meaning "huge mountain". Upon reaching Fairy Meadows check in to the lodge/tented camp for overnight.
After breakfast take an hour trek to Beyal camp or base camp of fairy Meadow. The Beyal camp is half way station between Fairy Meadows and the base camp of the Nanga Parbat, from where mountaineers start their ascent to the treacherous Nanga Parbat. From Beyal camp one gets majestic views of the Nanga Parbat. There is a basic lodge there where one can stop for a lunch and then return to the Fairy Meadows for the overnight at the lodge/tented camp.
Start your descent after breakfast to reach Tatto in time to catch the Jeep to Raikot Bridge. Upon reaching Raikot Bridge, transfer to your transport and retrace our route on the KKH to Chilas, from where we will continue on the fabled Shahrah-e-Resham towards Besham. From Khunjerab to Thakot, the KKH winds over 700 kms through breath-taking mountain terrain Spectacular scenery and the Indus River is our companion and we will cross the sites of two important under construction dams at Dassu and Diamar-Basha. On arrival, transfer to the hotel for overnight.
From Besham we would drive to Thakot where we will stop to view the FWO monument, erected in memory of those who perished while building his spectacular highway. From Thakot we would continue towards Mansehra, and then join the Hazara Motorway to Islamabad.
