Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Skardu | Journey to Khaplu

Upon arrival in Skardu, begin your Baltistan adventure with a scenic drive towards Khaplu, located approximately 105 kilometres east of Skardu.

The journey follows the mighty Indus River before turning into the beautiful Shyok Valley. En route, visit the spectacular Manthoka Waterfall, where crystal-clear water cascades nearly 180 feet into a lush green valley.

Continue through dramatic mountain landscapes, traditional Balti villages, and fertile orchards before arriving in Khaplu. Check in to your hotel and relax amidst one of Baltistan’s most beautiful valleys.

Day 2 – Machulo Village Excursion

After breakfast, enjoy a scenic excursion to the beautiful Machulo Village in the Hushe Valley, situated at an altitude of approximately 2,700 metres.

Surrounded by towering mountains and lush summer pastures, Machulo offers some of Baltistan’s finest panoramic views. Visit the famous Masherbrum Viewpoint, where the magnificent Masherbrum Peak (7,821m) dominates the skyline.

Explore the historic village mosque, traditional irrigation channels, riverside walking trails, and viewpoints overlooking the Siachen, Chorbat, and Ghanche Valleys.

Return to Khaplu in the afternoon for a guided walking tour of the beautifully restored Khaplu Palace, the old village, and the historic Khanqah.

Day 3 – Khaplu – Sarfaranga Cold Desert – Shigar – Skardu

Following breakfast, drive back to Skardu before continuing towards the spectacular Sarfaranga Cold Desert, one of the world’s highest cold deserts at over 2,200 metres above sea level.

Its golden sand dunes surrounded by snow-capped mountains create one of Pakistan’s most unique landscapes.

Continue to the historic town of Shigar, gateway to the Karakoram. Enjoy a gentle hike to Kari Dong (Shigar Rock), where ancient fortifications, Buddhist remains, old inscriptions, and breathtaking views of the Shigar Valley await.

Later, visit the beautifully restored 14th-century Amburiq Mosque, wander through the traditional bazaar, and explore the historic Khanqah before returning to Skardu.

Day 4 – Deosai National Park Excursion

Today’s adventure takes you to the spectacular Deosai National Park, known worldwide as the “Land of Giants.”

Situated at an average elevation of over 4,100 metres, Deosai is among the world’s highest alpine plateaus. During summer, the plains burst into colour with thousands of wildflowers, butterflies, and alpine grasses stretching as far as the eye can see.

En route, visit the ancient Manthal Buddha Rock Carving, believed to date back to the 8th century, followed by the beautiful Sadpara Lake.

Continue towards Bara Pani (weather and road conditions permitting), enjoying opportunities to observe Himalayan wildlife including golden marmots, Himalayan ibex, red foxes, migratory birds, and, with exceptional luck, the elusive snow leopard.

Return to Skardu in the evening.

Day 5 – Skardu Sightseeing

Spend the day exploring the natural and historical treasures of Skardu.

Visit the stunning Lower Kachura Lake, home to the famous Shangrila Resort, followed by the crystal-clear Upper Kachura Lake, surrounded by majestic mountains.

Later, climb the historic Kharpocho Fort, offering panoramic views over Skardu town, the Indus River, and the surrounding valleys.

Conclude the day by wandering through Skardu’s traditional bazaar, where local handicrafts, gemstones, dry fruits, and Balti souvenirs provide the perfect keepsakes.

Day 6 – Leisure in Skardu

Enjoy a relaxed morning surrounded by Baltistan’s peaceful mountain scenery.
